I found an old picture of me racing my XR3 down the 1/4 mile in the mid eighties. This was at a 'Run What You Brung' (RWYB) at Santa Pod. I took a few cars down the 1/4 mile. It is exhilerating, and a challenge to get the perfect gear shifts and start.

Well they still do this of course for 2010. Take your licence and £35, and a reliable car that won't blow up, and you're away. Your insurance won't be valid though.

I wondered if it might be of interest to some of us here one day?

I wouldn't mind doing it again. I've taken my XRs (17.1secs) down there, a Corvette (15.7secs), and even a 1300 Escort (for a laugh) - it took over 20 seconds! There's my XR3 below. It actually held off a Corvette in one race, for a couple of seconds anyway  Wink

As you can see it wasn't that busy in those days. Does anyone know what it is like now? Is it worth going?

I also found some old pics of a Goodwood track day. That was fun too and I see track days have already been done by some. Driving at top speed for several minutes continuous is unlike any other driving I've ever done. Speed cameras, traffic lights, other drivers all get in the way on normal roads, plus it is not my style - I'd rather go on a track or drag strip. I only ever did the one track day but it was sheer fun and the concentration levels wore me out. I don't think I'd do another nowadays but I recommend these days too. And no, I didn't beat the Corvettes here either (but was faster than an MR2).

Those were the days....
